A dispute between two businessmen in Harbour View, Kingston, turned deadly on Tuesday afternoon after one of the men allegedly shot and injured the other before being fatally shot by police.
The deceased man has been identified as 63-year-old Paul Thompson, also known as “Pablo,” of a Richards Avenue, Kingston 6 address.
According to reports, the incident stemmed from a dispute between Thompson and another businessman over a boatyard at Danny Marina that they shared. The confrontation occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m., when Thompson allegedly pulled a firearm and shot the other man twice.
The injured 76-year-old businessman was shot once in the chest and once in the right hand. Thompson also allegedly opened fire on the man’s Rottweiler during the confrontation.
The injured man was rushed to hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.
Police subsequently responded to the area and began processing the scene. During the police response, Thompson hid inside a container and allegedly opened fire at the lawmen, prompting the officers to return fire.
Thompson was struck during the exchange and was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation as police work to determine the events that led to the confrontation and subsequent exchange of gunfire.
