Budram Case Stalls Pending High Court Ruling

The highly publicized case against former church leader Mervin Budram remains at a standstill as the court awaits a ruling from the High Court on a case stated. The magistrate handling the matter raised constitutional concerns over the time frame between when the report was made and when the alleged incident occurred therefore extending the delay in the proceedings.  Love News understands that a formal request has been made for clarification on whether it is proper to continue under such circumstances. A case stated, which focuses strictly on legal questions rather than facts, was submitted months ago but has yet to be returned. Until the High Court responds, the matter is in limbo, leaving both the accused and the complainants unsure of the way forward.  The entire matter unraveled in August 2023 when several young women came forward with sexual claims against him.  Rebecca Stirm-Lennan was the first to go public on social media, explaining that she was preyed upon at the age of eleven by Budram.  Stirm-Lennan’s courage reportedly inspired several other young women to come forward with similar allegations.  Since the incident, Budram had been removed from all leadership and ministry roles at Jubilee Ministries in the Cayo District.
