Candlelight Vigil Launches Pinktober Events Honoring Cancer Survivors and Victims

As Cancer Awareness Month continues to be observed globally, Belize at Home recently concluded its second Pinktober activity, which celebrated and honoured those affected by the disease, including both those we have lost and those who have survived. The Candlelight Vigil also kicked off the opening on the month at the Belize Cancer Society headquarters on Mercy Lane. The event followed a flag-raising ceremony that took place earlier in the morning. The vigil kicked off a month-long series of PINKTOBER activities, including youth dialogues, survivor support events, and the next stop PINKTOBER Pink Power Health Expo, all designed to promote education, early screening, and collective action against cancer. In a heartfelt speech president of the Belize Cancer Society, Kim Simplis Barrow, shared, “The candlelight reminds us that even in our darkest hours, there is always light—and when we come together as a community, that light grows stronger.”

As Belize continues to observe Cancer Awareness Month, the Belize Cancer Society is raising public awareness, educating the masses, and providing support throughout October under the theme “Strong Women, Strong Community: Health, Healing, and Hope.”
