International rap star Cardi B has broken her silence following the cancellation of her scheduled performance at BZR WKND in Jamaica, insisting that the decision was not hers and apologising to fans who were looking forward to seeing her perform on the island for the first time.
In a video posted online, the rapper said she had made efforts to ensure the performance went ahead but eventually had to walk away as issues went unresolved.
News of her withdrawal from the event, which was scheduled for next Sunday, October 18, emerged on Thursday.
“First and first, I want to really, really apologise to Jamaica and to my Jamaican fans,” Cardi B said in the video.
“The reason why I cancelled so late is because when I say I tried my best and I waited and I waited and I waited for things to get in place and together, but it didn't.”
The artiste, who said she was disappointed that she would not be travelling to Jamaica, also pushed back against speculation that low ticket sales was behind her decision.
“For the haters, not the Jamaicans, but for the haters talking about little ticket sales, it was never that, because I heard there was over 18,000 tickets sold,” she said.
Cardi B added that fans from across the Caribbean were among those expected to travel to Jamaica for the performance.
The rapper also revealed that she had planned to extend her stay on the island after the show, spending additional days vacationing with friends and family.
She said the trip was particularly significant to her because it was planned around her birthday weekend.
While expressing regret over the late announcement, Cardi B said contractual restrictions prevented her from sharing further details about the circumstances surrounding the cancellation.
“However, ooh, I can't talk. I can't talk due to contracts. But just know, it wasn't me,” she said.
She maintained that she had continued to give those involved opportunities to get things in order before the decision was made.
“I waited this long because I was trying to give chances over and over and over and over and over again,” she said, adding that the arrangements had not reached the point where the performance could proceed.
Despite the setback, the rapper expressed hope that she would eventually get another opportunity to perform in Jamaica, noting that she has family on the island and holds affection for the country.
“I really, really, really wish that I could come and perform in Jamaica one day because I really love you guys. I have amazing families out there, and I'm sorry and I love y'all and [expletive] is beyond my hands. I promise y'all,” she said.
