Former West Indies batting star, Chris Gayle, criticised South Africa’s stand-in Test captain Wiaan Mulder’s decision not to chase down Brian Lara’s historic 400-run Test record.
Mulder had the opportunity to break Lara’s world record of 400 in the second Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.
On the second day, when lunch happened, Mulder returned to the pavilion unbeaten on a score of 367, but during the break, he declared the innings.
Lara is the only batsman to score 400 runs in a Test innings. He achieved this score against England in Antigua in 2004.
Mulder says he did not go after Lara’s record because he felt that this record should remain in Lara’s name.
Speaking on TalkSPORT, Gayle described the South African as generous.
Gayle dismissed suggestions that Zimbabwe wasn’t a worthy opponent for Mulder to eclipse Lara record.
