Corozal Community College Teachers Secure Meeting Over Finance Officer Dispute

Over 50 teachers of the Corozal Community College this afternoon had their prayers answered. The  Board of Directors chaired by Father Thomas Stone granted their request for a meeting to discuss the nine points of a letter they sent to the board and the way forward. The teachers wrote to the board requesting a meeting to discuss several points; chief among them is the removal of Finance Officer, Darrell Thompson from his position. The letter dated September 30 highlights the unethical behavior of the Finance Officer, adding that (quote) “his actions have consistently demonstrated a lack of professionalism and respect for faculty and staff, and we can no longer remain silent.” (end quote) The teachers went on to say that (quote) “we can no longer tolerate the Finance Officer’s tyrannical behavior and blatant disregard for the staff’s financial stability. His actions demonstrate a clear abuse of power, working against the school’s interest rather than supporting its mission. The finance officer allegedly held back the salaries of teachers; instead of paying them on the 28th of the month as customary the got paid on September 30, but not before they staged a three-day sick causing classes to be suspended  and the Belize National Teacher’s Union to get involved…thereby giving the management an ultimatum to pay the teachers or consequences will result.
