President of Cricket West Indies Dr. Kishore Shallow has come to the defence of West Indies head coach Darren Sammy as there are mounting calls for the St. Lucian to be sacked following the West Indies’ 3-0 Test sweep against Australia.
Shallow, while speaking on the Mason and Guest Show, said the criticism being levied at Sammy due to his nationality, is similar to the critique the former all-rounder faced during his playing days for the regional team.

But, former Jamaica and West Indies fast bowler Daren Powell has a different view. The public reaction, he says, is nothing new. Powell believes the deluge of criticism will amount to a ‘nine-day wonder’.
Since 2000, the West Indies have played 87 Tests, winning just 23. Fifteen of those wins have come against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan.
According to Powell, the main focus should be placed on improving the poor technique of the Caribbean players instead of chopping and changing the leadership.
Powell also pointed out that Sammy has in the past pointed to the pitches in the region as not being conducive to the region’s batters.
