Decomposed Body Discovered on Family Property in Ladyville

The badly decomposed body of one Joshua Martell was found in Ladyville, Belize District, this morning. The 25-year-old body was found on a family property off Plantation Road in a bushy area at around 9:30. The resident who found the body wished to remain anonymous, saying that he made the discovery while doing routine checks in an area where he is building a house. He says that the discovery has left him and his family deeply troubled.  

Resident: “When I reached my place, because I go and check my place because every week when I come from work I go and check it because I don’t want them to take my material that I have at the back. So when I reached at the area when I looked down I saw that body down there and I ran and hailed my sister and older her to call 911. The suit looked black, a black pants and black shirt so it could probably be a man. Well crime always happens around but never in my yard. I’ve never seen something like that before. It’s really rough, I’ve never seen something like this before in Ladyville, in my yard you know ?”

At the time of the Police Press Brief this afternoon, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero says that efforts were underway to identify the body.  By news time tonight, however, our newsroom was told that the body was identified as that of Martell, a resident of the Lord’s Bank area.

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of National Crime Investigation Branch:  “We have no identity of the remains at this time and investigation is ongoing.”

Reporter: There was a man missing from Biscayne is there a possibility that it could be that individual ? 

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of National Crime Investigation Branch: “We do not know at this time. We will contact the families later and then we will try and see if we can establish any identity.”

Reporter: And what state of decomposition was it in more or less ?

ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of National Crime Investigation Branch:  “It is not identifiable at this time. Further work will be done to try and establish the identity. All we know it is the body of a male person.”
