Defender Ricardo Califiori kicked past his own goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 55th minutes to hand Spain victory and a place in the knockout stage of the competition along with host Germany.
Meanwhile England had to settle for a 1-all draw with Denmark in Frankfurt.
Captain Harry Kane gave the Three Lions the lead on 18 minutes, but Morten Julmand restored parity for the Danes on 34 minutes.
In the day’s other game Serbia and Slovenia played out a 1-all draw.
