Eagle Star Marching Band Manager, Cleveland Brown, receiving the award for the best rendition of the Olympic Anthem from President Christopher Samuda as Montego Bay Mayor Councillor, Richard Vernon, endorses.
The Catherine Hall Sports Complex was ablaze with trumpet fanfares and drumbeats as eleven ensembles participated at the recent Marching Bands Explosion.
Each of the bands had over 40 people from several parishes across the island, march and go through their routines.
The event was staged by the St. James Chapter of the Lay Magistrates Association of Jamaica and saw the Olympic anthem delivered by all eleven bands.
The Jamaica Olympic Association returned as the event’s title sponsors and president Christopher Samuda was impressed with the diversity of talent.
Eagle Star band won an award of $150,000 for the best rendition of the Olympic anthem and it also copped the award, for a similar amount, for being the best dressed band.
Each Band received a grant of $100,000 to participate and assist in defraying rehearsal, uniform and equipment costs, plus $100,000 for transportation.
The award for the most disciplined band was given to Eastern Rangers which received $100,000, while the best band leader/performer award of $150,000 went to Waterhouse Steppers.

The LMAJ chapter is planning to invite Caribbean bands to participate in the event next year.
This definitely will transform the event into a Caribbean explosion on Jamrock when the Olympic anthem will, once again, reverberate.
