Jamaica’s Olympic double sprint champion Elaine Thompson-Herah has ruled herself out of the Paris Olympic Games.
Thompson-Herah was looking to become the first female and only the second individual behind Usain Bolt to win the 100-200 double at three straight Olympic Games.
That attempt went though the window two weeks ago when it was announced she would not be contesting the 200 metres at the National Champions. But the fastest woman alive still entered for the 100 metres.
However, she has now withdrawn from the National Championships starting in Kingston on Thursday.
A release from her management company Andi Sports Management says Thompson-Herah will not be able to defend her Olympic title and they wish her the best going forward.
Thompson-Herah was last at the New York Grand Prix this month and had to be taken off the track the 100 metres.
It was reported that she went to visit Dr. Muller Wohlfahrt in Germany in a last gasp attempt at saving her Olympics.
