Elderly Man Crushed by Dump Truck in Orange Walk Village Tragedy

Sixty-seven-year-old Julio Flora of Santa Marta Village in the Orange Walk District is dead after a two-door dump truck ran over him. The truck was being driven by Nelson Pech, 36. The incident occurred yesterday, November 4. According to a police report, Flora’s corpse was seen lying face down with the lower body on the road and the upper portion on the grass facing a northerly direction. The right side of his face was swollen, nose bleeding, with a cut wound to his left forearm. About 20 feet ahead on the left side of the road was a White 2007 Mack CPT 700 2-door Dump truck bearing license plate OW A-03809. 

Initial investigation revealed that about 6:30 pm, Pech parked the dump truck off the left-hand side of the road and went inside the Village chairman’s house. Shortly after returned to his truck and was driving slowly he saw his brother in the rear-view mirror, waving frantically at him indicating that he ran over a man whom he recognized as Flora, a fellow villager.
