Despite a $1 million JMD deposit and an additional $6.5 million JMD transfer, delays in processing funds due to the holiday season led to a bitter fallout. Clearsound declared a “material breach” of contract and issued a cease-and-desist, effectively halting the show. “Clearsound Production has been paid in full but the show, sadly, cannot go on,” Laing lamented at the time, describing the situation as “hard to stomach.”

The cancellation potentially left thousands of fans disappointed and dealt a blow to Jamaica’s live entertainment economy, affecting vendors, artists, and local communities that depend on Sting’s annual draw. The ripple effect was so significant that many questioned whether the event, founded in 1984 and celebrated for its resilience through storms and controversies, could ever recover its footing.
