In response to mounting concerns over deforestation and its effects on agriculture, the Minister of Sustainable Development, Orlando Habet says the government is preparing to launch a specialized unit dedicated solely to land use policy. Habet says the initiative aims to slow the alarming pace at which forested areas are being cleared, a trend that threatens both the environment and the country’s agricultural productivity.
The planned land use unit will be tasked with monitoring forest clearance, enforcing existing land use regulations, and ensuring that development projects are in line with national policies aimed at balancing growth with conservation.
