French luxury house Hermès has announced the appointment of Grace Wales Bonner as its new Creative Director of Men’s Ready-to-Wear, marking a major shift in the brand’s menswear direction. Wales Bonner, known for her cerebral and culturally rich approach to fashion, will present her first collection for Hermès in January 2027.
The London-born designer succeeds Véronique Nichanian, who led Hermès’ menswear for more than three decades, and brings with her a reputation for blending meticulous craftsmanship with narratives exploring identity, heritage, and art.
Wales Bonner, a graduate of Central Saint Martins (2014), founded her eponymous label in 2014 and has since become one of the most acclaimed voices in contemporary fashion. Her work has earned her several top industry honors, including the CFDA International Men’s Designer of the Year Award (2021) and British Menswear Designer of the Year (2024).
In announcing her appointment, Pierre-Alexis Dumas, General Artistic Director of Hermès, praised her “take on contemporary fashion, craft and culture,” saying it would help shape the next era of Hermès menswear.
“Grace’s appetite and curiosity for artistic practice strongly resonate with Hermès’ creative mindset and approach,” Dumas said. “We are at the start of an enriching mutual dialogue.”
For her part, Wales Bonner expressed gratitude and excitement at joining one of the world’s most storied luxury houses.
“I am deeply honoured to be entrusted with the role of Creative Director of Hermès Men’s Ready-to-Wear,” she said. “It is a dream realised to embark on this new chapter, following in a lineage of inspired craftspeople and designers.”
The appointment signals a new creative era for Hermès as the maison continues to blend timeless craftsmanship with modern cultural sensibilities. Fashion observers are already anticipating how Wales Bonner’s thoughtful approach—rooted in storytelling, music, and history—will reinterpret Hermès’ understated codes for a new generation of men.
