Grenada and Belize Postal Services suspend shipments to US

The Grenada Postal Corporation (GPC) and Belize Postal Service (BPS) have temporarily suspended all parcels and small packages bound for the United States, citing new U.S. customs regulations that eliminate the long-standing duty-free threshold for incoming goods.

Jamaica Post has also done the same.

The suspension follows the implementation of U.S. Executive Order 14324, which ends the de minimis exemption of US$800 on shipments to the U.S. Starting August 29, 2025, all goods entering the country will be subject to customs duties from the first dollar.

For customers, this means:

• Only documents (letters without goods) can currently be shipped.

• Senders must prepay customs duties, shifting responsibility from recipients.

  

• Every shipment must be pre-filed electronically with U.S. Customs using new documentation requirements.

GPC noted that this change has created global disruptions, with postal operators across Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean suspending services while they adjust to the new rules. The corporation said it is actively working with the Universal Postal Union and international partners to develop compliant solutions and hopes to restore parcel services to the U.S. as soon as possible.

Similarly, BPS confirmed the suspension, with exceptions only for gifts valued under USD 100—including merchandise and postage—and shipments containing exclusively documents. District post offices outside Belize City will accept packages with goods only until midday on Wednesday, while the Belize City Post Office will accept them until 3:30 p.m.

“This new rule will affect all postal operators worldwide and is scheduled to take effect on August 29, 2025,” BPS said. “We are making every effort to enable the resumption of all shipments as soon as possible in compliance with the new regulations.”

Both postal services urged customers to monitor updates and expressed regret for the inconvenience, stressing that the suspension is necessary to comply with U.S. regulations and protect customers from disruption.
