Gun Violence Spreads to Majestic Alley and Police Street After Bloody Weekend

The spate of violence which blanketed the city over the weekend continued last night in Majestic Alley and Police Street. LOVE NEWS Rafael Roberts has more.

Rafael Roberts, Love News: Indiscriminate shots rang out around 8pm in Majestic Alley, Belize City. When the smoke cleared 28-Year-old Dane Gillette laid dead, and three others were injured including a two-year-old baby boy. Antuan Rivero 26, of Handyside Street Belize City, and Francis Nolberto 28 also received gunshot wounds to the body. A group of five were hanging out yesterday in the area when a black Chevy Equinox with no license plate drove by from the direction off Queen Street, heading for North Front Street and began to open fire. Gillette received multiple gunshot wounds to the stomach and abdomen. The two-year-old baby boy received a single shot to the lower left back while Rivero and Nolberto were also shot. We spoke with Natasha Clark, mother of the two-year-old who witnessed the bloodshed but declined to appear on camera.

Natasha Clarke: “She had the baby in her hand because she was putting him to sleep and he didn’t want to come to me so I said, ok go to your auntie . So she had him rocking him to sleep and we were on the sidewalk sitting down beside them. I never expected this to happen. I didn’t even know that my baby got shot. I felt like it was only the young man that got shot. But when my sister ran out and said that my baby got shot too I never believe it.”

Rafael Roberts, Love News: Amid the senseless tragedy, Clarke finds a ray of hope.

Natasha Clark: “My baby is okay, bullet needs to be removed from his back and he will do much better because he is laughing still, he didn’t even notice that he got shot. He laughing and moving good, so yeah, he good.”

Rafael Roberts, Love News: While in pursuit of the Equinox on Police Street in the Lake Independence area, the police mobile was struck with multiple 5.562 bullets from a machine gun leaving Corporal Elvis Guzman to nurse a bullet wound in his hand. The intended target, one Ryan Young, 26 escaped death but was shot to his upper body. Rafael Roberts for LOVE NEWS
