Former head coach of Jamaica’s national senior men’s football team, Heimir Hallgrimsson, was announced as the manager of the Republic of Ireland football team, today.
Hallgrimsson replaces Stephen Kenny whose contract was not renewed after the country failed to qualify for Euro.
The 57-year-old ended his relationship with Jamaica following the Reggae Boyz poor showing at the Copa America tournament.
The Boyz went down 1-0 against Mexico, 3-1 to Ecuador and 3-0 against Venezuela.
Hallgrimsson’s stint as head coach of the Reggae Boyz runs from September 16, 2022 to June 30, 2024.
As head coach, Hallgrimsson led the national team in 27-matches – winning-11, drawing six and losing-10.
