Former head coach of Jamaica’s senior men’s national football team, Heimir Hallgrímsson, will be paid the Jamaican equivalent of $110 million a year to coach the Ireland national team.

The 57-year-old Icelander was unveiled on Wednesday as Stephen Kenny’s replacement.

Hallgrímsson will be paid €650,000 per year to coach the Irish but has been given 17 months to turn things around.

Hallgrímsson’s contract runs until after the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign.

The Irish FA says Hallgrímsson was identified earlier this year as their number one candidate.

His first game in charge of Ireland will be a Nations League clash against England on September 7 and then against Greece a few days later.

Hallgrímsson resigned more than a week ago as Jamaica’s coach by mutual consent and after the country’s participation at the Copa America.
