‘It wasn’t me’: Cardi B says Jamaica show cancellation was beyond her control, apologies to fans

International rap artiste Cardi B has apologised to her Jamaican fans after announcing that she will no longer be performing at BZR WKND Jamaica next week, saying she had tried her best to make the appearance happen but had to walk away due to unresolved issues.

Cardi B said she could not go into details due to contracts.

In a video posted online, the Grammy-winning artiste expressed sadness over the cancellation, which was announced on Thursday, and said she was waiting for arrangements to be finalised before deciding to withdraw from the show.

“First and first, I want to really, really apologise to Jamaica and to my Jamaican fans,” she said.

“The reason why I cancelled so late is because when I say I tried my best and I waited and I waited and I waited for things to get in place and together, but it didn't.”

Cardi B was scheduled to perform at the concert on Sunday, October 18. The appearance would have marked her first performance in Jamaica.

The rapper dismissed suggestions that poor ticket sales were behind her decision to pull out of the event.

“For the haters, not the Jamaicans, but for the haters talking about little ticket sales, it was never that, because I heard there were over 18,000 tickets sold,” she said, adding the show was expected to attract fans from across the Caribbean.

The artiste said she had planned to spend several additional days in Jamaica with friends and family after the performance, making the cancellation particularly disappointing as the trip coincided with her birthday weekend.

Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, said she could not disclose further details about the circumstances surrounding the cancellation because of contractual restrictions.

“However, ooh, I can't talk. I can't talk due to contracts. But just know, it wasn't me,” she said.

The rapper maintained that she had given repeated opportunities for the arrangements to be completed but that things had not reached the point necessary for the performance to proceed.

“I waited this long because I was trying to give chances over and over and over and over and over again, and things didn't meet to the point,” she said.

Despite the disappointment, Cardi B expressed hope that she would eventually get the opportunity to perform in Jamaica, where she said she has family.

“I really, really, really wish that I could come and perform in Jamaica one day because I really love you guys. I have amazing families out there, and I'm sorry, and I love y'all," she said.
