Jamaica’s Men Fail Latest Attempt to Qualify for Paris Mile Relay

Jamaica has failed in its latest attempt to qualify for the men’s 4×400 metre relays at the Paris Olympic Games this summer.

The quartet of Reheem Hayles, JeVaugn Powell, Kimar Farquharson and Tarees Rhoden ran 2:59.75 to win the event at the New Life Invitational in Nassau Bahamas on Sunday.

However they needed to run faster than 2:59.12 done in March by Zambia who are holding the 16th and final qualifying spot.

Fourteen countries have already qualified automatically from the World Relays in March with the other two to be known by times done the during qualifying window which closes on June 30.

France ran 2:58.46 last year and are along with Zambia the two countries set to take the two spots based on times.

This represents the first time in decades that Jamaica will not be part of a global championships in the men’s 4×400 metres if the authorities are not able to secure another meet to make one final attempt on or before June 30.
