Jennifer Lopez Says She’s “Never Truly Been Loved” Despite Four Marriages and Eight Public Relationships

Jennifer Lopez has revealed in her first interview Howard Stern Show on SiriusXM that despite being married four times, she doesn’t believe she’s ever truly been loved. The 56-year-old singer and actress said “No” when asked by host Howard Stern if she has ever been truly loved, later adding, “They have given me all they had.”

Lopez, who has been engaged six times and involved in eight public relationships, said she’s come to understand, “What I’ve learned is not that I am not lovable — it’s that they are not capable.”

Her marriages include Ojani Noa (1997–1998), Cris Judd (2001–2003), Marc Anthony (2004–2014), and Ben Affleck (2022–2024).

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have had two major relationship eras. Their first, from 2002 to 2004, began when they met while filming Gigli. They got engaged in November 2002 and planned a September 2003 wedding that was called off just days before. They officially broke up in early 2004 without marrying.

Nearly 20 years later, they rekindled their romance in 2021, marrying in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, and holding a second ceremony in Georgia that August. Lopez filed for divorce on August 20, 2024, citing “irreconcilable differences” and listed April 26, 2024, as their date of separation.

She was also previously engaged to Alex Rodriguez in 2019 before their breakup in 2021. Her other public relationships have included Sean “Diddy” Combs, Casper Smart, Drake, and her high school sweetheart David Cruz.

During her candid conversation with Stern, Lopez reflected, “What I learned, it’s not that I’m not lovable — it’s that they’re not capable. … They don’t have it in them. And they gave me what they had. They gave me all of it, every time. All the rings, all the things I could ever want. The houses, the rings, the marriage. All of it. But….”

The Money Train star admitted there were times she “didn’t love myself.” Reflecting on her split from Affleck, Lopez said, “When I got divorced this last time, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. Because it really made me journey into — I mean, I had a religious coach, I had a therapist, a couple’s therapist, an individual therapist, I had a coach to understand addiction. I had everything. I was like, ‘I’m gonna f—in’ figure this s— out if it kills me.’”

She added, “Core of the thing is you — it’s nobody else. Now I’m able to sit here in a much more self-assured, self-aware way of the things that have happened to me … and know who I am and just really appreciate that person. [I] feel really comfortable and good in being myself, all the good parts and all the kind of complicated things.”

When Stern asked if she’s ever experienced true love, Lopez replied, “Glimpses.”

Affleck, 53, has also spoken kindly about their relationship, telling GQ, “She’s somebody I have a lot of respect for. There’s no scandal, no soap opera, no intrigue … it’s just a story about people trying to figure out their lives and relationships.”

Lopez, who shares 17-year-old twins Max and Emme with Marc Anthony, said her children helped her through her most recent divorce. “I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better.’ I promised them that and I did it,” she told El País. “And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life.”
