JFF Hails Football Writers’ Player of the Year ‘Bunny’ Shaw

President of the Jamaica Football Federation, Michael Ricketts, has expressed his congratulation to captain of the senior women’s national team, Khadija “Bunny” Shaw, who has been voted the Football Writers’ Association Women’s Player of the Year in England’s Women’s Super League.

Shaw received a record 53 per cent of the votes, indicating the tremendous impact she had on Manchester City, and the overall quality and consistency of her performances this season.

She scored 21 goals and engineered three assists in 18 games before injury curtailed her season.

Ricketts says this award is a beautiful feather in her cap and a massive advertisement for Jamaica’s football.

Ricketts says this augers well for the national team in the future.

Shaw is the third Jamaican to have won this award after John Barnes – 1987-88 and 1989-90 and Raheem Sterling in 2019.

Meanwhile, Manchester City midfielder, Phil Foden received the men’s award.

Foden scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 50 appearances in all competitions for City this term.

The England midfielder received 42 per cent of the vote, beating Declan Rice in second and City team-mate Rodri in third.
