WITH BOTH of their meetings in the Jamaica Women’s Premier League (JWPL) ending in hard-fought draws, Cavalier and Arnett Gardens’ meeting in the JWPL semi-finals is expected to be a close affair.
Both teams have booked their place in the final four of the JWPL season by virtue of their top-four finish in the regular season.
Arnett finished second with 50 points while Cavalier were close behind in third with 48.
Though two points separated them in the table, there was nothing to separate either team during their meetings throughout the season.
In fact, both games ended in 2-2 draws as their fierce rivalry defined much of the race for a spot in the league’s top four.
Cavalier’s head coach, Everdean Scarlett, said he was well aware of how closely matched the teams are and will be looking for the right formula to see his team through to the final.
“We just have to work on the places where we know where we are weak and try to improve our defensive structure as well.
“Every time we’ve played this team, it ended up in a 2-2 draw. We know what we have to do to get over this hurdle.”
It will not be easy for Scarlett and his Cavalier unit as they are set to face an Arnett team on the top of their game.
The Junglists enter the semi-finals on the back of the 14-1 demolition of Real MoBay in their final fixture of the regular season.
They are also enjoying a 10-game unbeaten run, which includes a 1-1 draw with the unbeaten defending champions Frazsiers Whip.
Leading the lines for the Junglists will be Shakira Douglas, who has bagged 37 goals this season.
Not to be outdone, however, Cavalier will put their attacking hopes in the proven Shanel Spence, who has notched 32 goals this campaign.
The first leg of the semi-final is set for July 26, with the second leg set for August 2. Both games will be played at the Constant Spring Sports Complex.
