Kaliese Spencer Carter Hangs Up Her Spikes

Kaliese Spencer Carter has officially announced her retirement from track and field.

Spencer Carter, who turned 37 on May 6 this year, told Nationwide Sports in an exclusive interview on Thursday that her 17 year career as a professional athlete has come to an end.

Spencer Carter explained the moment she decided to put away her spikes.

The former Mannings High School standout won Commonwealth Games 400m hurdles gold in 2014 and claimed double silver at the World Indoor Championships the same year.

Spencer Carter finished fourth at the World Championships in 2009 and 2011 and is also a four time Diamond League winner.

In the only Olympic Games which she participated, Spencer Carter crossed the line fourth in 53.66 seconds in London in 2012.

However, Russia’s Natalya Antyukh who crossed the line first, was disqualified in 2022 for drug use and Spencer Carter upgraded to bronze.

Spencer Carter will be flown to Paris this summer by the International Olympic Committee, IOC, and presented with her bronze medal during the Olympic Games.

She told Nationwide Sports that she ranks the achievement as the highlight of her career.

She will begin working with the Jamaica Olympic Association on a project in September.
