WHILE TOTAL Football Academy (TFA) walked away with the title at the KSAFA-Guardian Group Under-11 Summer Challenge Cup after two days of competition over the weekend, the tournament organisers declared the event a resounding success.
TFA defeated Benders Academy 5-1 in the final to claim the coveted Challenge Cup title on Sunday at the UWI Mona Bowl.
It was also an impressive sweep of individual awards for the TFA, as Alphanso Green earned the Best Goalkeeper award, Sean Williams was named the Best Midfielder, O’neil Kinglock was voted Best Defender, Dejuan Samuels won the Golden Boot, and Dejan Martin was the competition’s Most Valuable Player.
In the President’s Cup, the consolation award, Browns Town Blue claimed the win, getting the better of Valeo Academy.
Camille Campbell, senior manager of marketing and communication at Guardian Group, said the title sponsors were pleased with their partnership with KSAFA with their aim towards youth development.
She explained that the Guardian Group thinks of the competition, and similar competitions, as a way to provide a platform for Jamaica’s young athletes.
“Guardian Life sees the KSAFA Guardian Group Summer Challenge Cup as more than just a competition. It’s a meaningful platform that gives children an opportunity to develop physically, mentally and socially in a safe and supportive environment,” Campbell said.
“Grassroots initiatives like this are critical to building stronger communities and empowering future generations. By supporting this tournament, we are helping to lay a foundation where young athletes can enjoy the sport, develop their talents, and grow into confident, healthy individuals.”
Campbell said their sponsorship, valued at $1.5 million, also aligned with the Guardian Group’s goal of promotion health and wellness.
“Guardian Group is pleased to partner with KSAFA in supporting youth development through sports. Our $1.5-million sponsorship of the Guardian Group Summer Challenge Cup aligns with one of our core corporate social responsibility priorities – health and wellness,” she said.
“We firmly believe in the importance of fostering healthy lifestyles and creating positive avenues for the holistic development of Jamaica’s youth. Supporting this tournament allows us to invest directly in initiatives that promote physical activity, teamwork and personal growth among our young people.”
The Guardian Group believes the importance of competitions like KSAFA U11 Challenge Cup extends beyond just the players, but through their families and communities alike.
“We are proud to support the current partnership with KSAFA and look forward to seeing the positive impact this competition will have on the children, their families and the wider community,” Campbell explained.
