Seasoned campaigners Ryan Lue and Mattea Issa will lead Jamaica’s team to the 37th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship (CJAGC) from July 28 to August 1 at the Grand Reserve Golf Club, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
The full team includes returning players with experience at the regional level, as well as two new members.
National coach Jonathan Newnham who has been preparing the team to challenge the other countries in the Caribbean including host country and perennial winners Puerto Rico for the Hank James country trophy, as well as the age group trophies, is upbeat that the team will give a good account of itself during the championship. He will be relying on Lue and Issa, the two most experienced players on the team to shepherd the younger ones as they seek to master the varying conditions on what might be a strange golf course to some players.
Jamaica’s best position to date at the championship is second in 2018 when it was held here at the Caymanas Golf Club in St Catherine and in 2019 at the PGA-rated golf course in Nassau, Bahamas.
Several sponsors are supporting the team this year including Sandals Foundation, BCIC, Fleetwood, Tile City/Kholer, S Hotel, and a number of others who support the Jamaica Junior Golf fundraiser – The Pin Ball Golf Tournament which was held in June.
