A thirty-three-year-old Majestic Alley resident was remanded to prison today following a stabbing last week. Steven Flowers, also known as “Fats,” was denied bail at his arraignment. Flowers was charged with aggravated assault, wounding, and escape from lawful custody. The charges stem from an August 11 incident in the Majestic Alley that left Nelson Gillett hospitalized. Appearing before Magistrate Ludlow Black, Flowers pleaded not guilty to all charges and requested bail. The prosecutor objected, citing his criminal record and a concern that he is a flight risk. The prosecutor also noted that Flowers was the alleged aggressor in the stabbing. Flowers, who was unrepresented, argued that he was also a victim and that he ran from police because two men had machetes. He was unable to convince the magistrate. Flowers was remanded to Belize Central Prison. He is scheduled to return to court on October 20.
