Bovel McPherson and Anthony Cox lead the 8 athletes from this morning’s 400 qualifiers into this evening’s first round of the men’s event on the opening day of the 2024 National Athletics championships at the National Stadium.
McPherson and Cox both clocked identical 47.04 seconds to win their respective heats and will join the 16 seeded runners into the semi-finals this evening at 6.50
The other seven emerging from the qualifiers are Paul Henry 47.33, Roy Miller 47.50, Nicardo Black 47.88, Terry Thomas 48.15, Emil Gordon 48.28 and Lavar Berrick 48.71 seconds
Meanwhile former Meadowbrook High’s Shakur Williams ran a season best 10.25 to lead seven athletes from the men’s 100m qualifiers this morning into tonight’s first round at 8.45
68 sprinters took part in nine heats this morning and the seven will now join the 25 seeded runners in the first round.
A total of 680 athletes are competing in the four day championships for places on Jamaica’s teams to the Olympic Games in Paris July 26 to August 11 and the World Under 20 championships in Lima Peru August 27-30
