Miss Trelawny Festival Queen 2025, Selena Angus, will not compete in tonight's National Festival Queen Coronation due to a "sudden medical emergency".
The second-runner-up and Most Congenial sectional awardee in the Miss Trelawny Festival Queen Competition, Angus, was selected to represent Trelawny after the winner, Dalian Watson, and first runner-up, Tyra Bucknor, pulled out of the running.
A release from the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) said Angus had fully committed herself to the responsibilities of the crown and was ready to represent the northwestern parish as one of 13 parish queens slated to compete.
"[She] participated in official courtesy calls, took part in rehearsals, and was poised to represent Trelawny with grace and pride on the national stage," the release said.
However, following a recent medical evaluation, Angus' doctors have advised that she remain under their care and refrain from further participation in the competition set to take place at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St Andrew.
HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Lenford Salmon, executive director of the JCDC, sent best wishes to the Trelawny parish queen.
“Our hearts and prayers are with Selena during this time, as she steps away from the competition based on her doctor’s recommendations,” said Salmon. “Her courage and commitment have been nothing short of inspiring. While we will deeply miss her presence on stage, her health and well-being are what matter most. She remains a shining example of the festival queen spirit, and we stand fully beside her as she recovers.”
Salmon shared that the organisation wishes her the best and fully supports her decision to prioritise recovery.
“We understand that this news will come as a disappointment to many who have followed her journey, but we ask for the public’s continued prayers and support as she focuses on rest and recovery," he said. “The entire JCDC family, along with the festival queen network, stands in full solidarity with her and her loved ones during this challenging time.”
The remaining 12 parish queens have also extended their best wishes to Angus as they prepare to represent their parishes.
