The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) tax amnesty road show has made its 11th stop this morning in the village of Caye Caulker. The program serves an opportunity for MSMEs conducting business in Belize, to formalize with Belize Tax Services and receive a one-year business tax exemption from the date of issue of the MSME Tax Amnesty Certificate, plus waiver of accrued penalties and interest.
The MSME tax amnesty program is a huge deal, why; it’s not just a simple tax collection exercise. It’s a economic reform that will reshape Belize’s informal economy, and foster long-term financial inclusion.
Many local Businesses operate off the books, meaning the government’s potential tax base is tiny. An MSME amnesty is the fastest way to bring these businesses into the formal tax net, creating a sustainable source of revenue for the future.
The next stop will be in Punta Gorda Toledo, on Friday. Kevin Avilez for Love News
