National 200 metres champion Ashanti Moore has booked her ticket to the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo Japan after securing the qualifying standard.
Moore posted a lifetime best 22.40 seconds to win the event at a meet in Eisenstadt Austria on Wednesday, well clear of the 22.57 seconds she needed to secure her spot in the Japanese capital in September.
The former Hydel High School standout became national champion for the first time in June.
Her first attempt at making the qualifying time fell apart at the London Diamond League this past weekend when she finished seventh in 22.86 seconds.
Candice McLeod, better known as a quarter-miler, finished second behind Moore in Austria in 23.73 seconds.
National 200 metres champion Bryan Levell won the men’s 100 in a new meet record time 9.82 seconds while Kadrian Goldson provided the third Jamaican win at the meet with victory in the 200 metres in a new meet record 20.32 seconds ahead of another Jamaican Delano Kennedy second in a new lifetime best 20.70 seconds
Adele Tracey clocked 2:01.29 seconds for third in the women’s 800m.
