Nine arrested, guns and stolen property seized in San Fernando police operation

A targeted anti-crime operation in San Fernando has resulted in the arrest of nine people and the seizure of several illegal firearms, ammunition, and suspected stolen property.

Police said the exercise, conducted between 2pm and 6pm on Thursday, August 7, was aimed at high-crime areas and priority offenders, while also gathering intelligence linked to an ongoing robbery and murder investigation.

The operation was led by Senior Superintendent Simon, Superintendent Jaikaran, ASP Ramsaran, and Inspector Maharaj, and supervised by Sergeant Nandlal, Ag/Sgt Seecharan, and Ag/Cpl Huggins, with support from the San Fernando Enquiry Staff and the Southern Division Task Force.

During the exercise, three vehicles were intercepted and searched based on intelligence and surveillance. Officers reportedly seized:

One black pistol with an extended magazine and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition

One shotgun and three 12-gauge cartridges

One extended magazine with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition

One black bulletproof vest marked “POLICE”

Jewellery, including a gold-coloured chain, a gold-coloured hand band, three gold-coloured rings, two silver bracelets, and one silver hand band

Those arrested include:

A 22-year-old man, of Oropune Gardens, Piarco
A 28-year-old man, of Nazim Street, St. James
A 29-year-old man, of May Street, Beetham Gardens
A 29-year-old man, of Oropune Gardens, Piarco
A 22-year-old man, of Oropune Gardens, Piarco
A 27-year-old man, of Silver Stream, Aripero
A 23-year-old man, of Larizource Street, Port of Spain
A 23-year-old man, of Flover Street, Morvant
A 29-year-old man, of Elizabeth Street, La Romain

Police say investigations are continuing.
