No Podium Places for Jamaica at Monaco Diamond League

There were three fourth place finishes for Jamaican athletes at today Monaco Diamond League meeting at the Stade Louis the Second Stadium in the French Principality.

National champion Malik James King clocked 47.73 seconds in the men’s 400m hurdles, beaten by the three fastest men ever over the distance.

Rai Benjamin won in 46.67 seconds ahead of Olympic champion Karsten Warholm 46.73 seconds and Alison Dos Santos 47.18 seconds.

Shanieka Ricketts was fourth in the women’s Triple Jump with a leap of 14.67 meters and Ackelia Smith fifth with 14.30 meters. Victory went to the Paris Olympic favourite Leyanis Hernandez of Cuba 14.96 meters.

Former national champion Andrew Hudson also had to settle for fourth in the men’s 200m in 20.43 seconds as Botswana’s young start Letsile Tebogo won in 19.87 seconds.

The next Diamond League will be in London July 20, the last before the Paris Olympic Games.
