Orange Walk Man Charged With Murder of Elderly Woman

Police have officially charged 56-year-old Eugene Lloyd Ramirez with the murder of 71-year-old Esthel Trapp. On Friday, police found Trapp’s in the bedroom of her home on the Old Northern Highway in an area known as London Road, some five miles from Santa Martha Village, Orange Walk District. The body was on the floor, covered with a sheet, and had injuries to the face and head. Police say that it was Ramirez who called them to inform them about the murder around 3 a.m.; however, when officers first responded, they could not find the location.  Ramirez called back again around 5:30 a.m., and this time, when officers arrived, they found Ramirez waiting on the side of the road to direct them to the house. Today Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero said that there are still many unanswered questions as the investigation continues.

Police also recovered a hammer from the scene, which is believed to be the murder weapon
