Within the 6-minute statement delivered by Prime Minister Briceno, the announcement of a new Cabinet Committee came about. According to the PM, he will spearhead this committee with a mandate to address the cost of living for Belizeans.

John Briceño, Prime Minister of Belize: “One other executive change I will put in place immediately is a special cabinet committee to address cost of living issues. I will chair this team as prime minister, working alongside ministers Requena, Fonseca, Mai, Bernard, Mahler, and Garcia Ramirez, along with their CEOs. Aside from coordinating organic initiatives to address affordability, this special committee will specifically examine the impacts of major government policies across government so as to protect the purchasing power of the working and middle classes.”
Interestingly, it was on March 2, 2023, that a similar committee was formed by this government to address the cost of living. Back then, Cabinet noted that Minister of Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Abelardo Mai would explore the alleviation of the impacts of the high cost of living and address the issue of price gouging.
