Police kill 3 in Valencia, Tacarigua

Three men were killed by police in two separate shootings in Tacarigua and Valencia late yesterday.

The killings pushed the number of police-involved shootings to nine since the State of Emergency began on July 18, resulting in the deaths of ten persons.

Overall, the number of police-involved shootings has risen to 40 for the year so far, with 49 fatalities.

Guardian Media understands the three men were pronounced dead on arrival at hospitals, while a manhunt continued for a fourth suspect in the Tacarigua area up to last night.

In the incident just after 5 pm at Orange Grove Road, South, Tacarigua, it was reported that police were pursuing the suspects in a stolen white Toyota Raize, when following a confrontation, one man was killed at the scene while another escaped.

In another confrontation along the Valencia Old Road, officers reportedly wounded two men during an alleged shootout.

The suspects were later pronounced dead on arrival at hospital.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the deceased had identified as suspects in the deadly ambush onprison officer Govindra Balgobin on June 20, at Orange Grove Road, Piarco.

One of the suspects, identified as Jessie Belfon, died minutes after the shooting, after he was thrown out of the getaway car as they sped off.
