A Belize Police Officer, 41-year-old Luis Tesecum, was involved in a single-vehicle accident early this morning on the George Price Highway, near Unitedville Village. The incident, which occurred amidst heavy rainfall, resulted in damage to a Police Department bus and minor injuries to Officer Tesecum. According to a statement recorded at the Belmopan Police Station, Tesecum was driving a 2020 yellow Toyota Coaster Bus, returning from Benque Viejo Town, having dropped off police officers. Love News understands that as he entered Unitedville Village, just past the football field, he was driving approximately 40 to 45 miles per hour due to the severe rain and slippery road conditions. He recounted that the bus suddenly began to “skate” to the left, drifting off the road and into a drain, where it eventually came to a stop. Upon exiting the vehicle, Officer Tesecum observed significant damage to the bus, including a broken front windshield, broken side glass, a broken left headlamp, and a dent on the left side. He also realized he had hit his head and felt pain in his right hand, left shoulder, and lower back. A passing mobile unit from the National Police Training Academy assisted Officer Tesecum, transporting him to the Western Regional Hospital for observation. An x-ray revealed no fractures, only bruises and small cuts on his right and left hands and forehead. Officer Tesecum confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
