Pound Yard stabbing leaves one man hospitalized; police investigating

On the crime front, Police are investigating a stabbing incident that occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Pound Yard area of Belize City, leaving one man hospitalized.  According to reports, just before three o’clock, officers were dispatched following information from the Police Control Room about a stabbing near Mila’s Fruit Shop. Upon arrival, investigators encountered 66-year-old Michael Wells, a Jamaican construction worker of Ladyville, Belize District.  Initial investigations revealed that Wells was purchasing items at Reza Store on Cemetery Road when he was reportedly approached from behind by a 30-year-old conductor of Curl Thompson Street. The conductor allegedly struck Wells with a piece of board, after which Wells reportedly pulled a knife from his bag and stabbed Lopes during the altercation.  Lopes was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.  Love News understands that a black-handled knife with a six-inch blade, believed to have been used in the incident, was recovered at the scene.
