Reports surface of the possible sale of The Hangar area in Belize City

The popular area in Belize City, known as The Hangar Road has been around for decades.  It is a location where friends and couples would come to enjoy the seaside view among other recreational activities.  Tonight, however, there are reports that some four affluent businessmen may stand to benefit from the sale of this location.  Our newsroom has not been able to get an official confirmation on the prospective sale, but we are told that these four men who have houses in this area are in negotiations to buy the seafront thoroughfare.  Our newsroom did reach out to the Belize City Council and got an indication that both ends of the road are being blocked to vehicular traffic as a crime fighting strategy.  As a matter of fact, Love News received a copy of a letter dated July 2024 from the then Police Commissioner Chester Williams appealing to the council to seal the area due to an increase in crime.  It seems that some two years earlier, a petition with thirty-two signatures was also sent to the City Council by residents of the area.  The petition sought to have the area cordoned off due to what residents say was ‘excessive loitering’ in the neighborhood.  The letter went on to note that late at night into the early morning hours, people are at the seafront, drinking excessively, smoking weed with the smell floating into their homes, sexual activity, physical abuse, loud music, littering and street side parties.  While the council indicated that the area will be a closed location due to crime, Love News is following the reports of the officials preparing to sell off the road.  We will keep you posted.
