Rogers Stadium Sporting Club Donates Backpacks to Students After Summer Camp

Over sixty children who participated in a summer program last month received backpacks and supplies for back to school today, courtesy of the Rogers Stadium Physical and Cultural Sporting Club (RSPCSC). The camp was held at the Gwen Lizarraga High School compound and focused on remedial skills such as literacy and numeracy for high school students. There was also an element of physical education. Mike Gentle, the Club’s Education Coordinator, said that the summer camp and today’s supply distribution support the club’s efforts to address poverty through education. Vice President Edwin Belisle said that the current club started ten years ago as a revival of an organization that had existed prior. Belisle says that the members are Belizeans who left Belize but have returned to give back to their communities.

The summer camp reportedly cost around $15,000 to host, and the supplies were estimated at around $2,700. The club says that it is always looking for others to collaborate with, to deliver educational support to students.
