Spartans athlete, Sami DePass, will represent Jamaica at the International Powerlifting Federation World Classic Open Championships in the 76kg class, in Lithuania, tomorrow.
DePass will be among 19 female powerlifters competing in this prestigious event.
Last year, she finished seventh out of 25 athletes.
As the reigning champion in Jamaica’s 76kg class since 2021 and the North American Powerlifting Federation champion since 2022, DePass is no stranger to the demands and pressures of top-tier competition.
Of the six athletes who finished ahead of DePass in 2023, only four will be participating in this year’s event.
Defending champion Karlina Tongotea from New Zealand, Agata Sitko from Poland, who has been the runner-up for three consecutive years, Jessica Buettner from Canada, who placed third in 2023, and Sophia Ellis from Great Britain, who finished sixth in 2023.
DePass has made significant improvements, adding 10kg to her total.
This increase brings her new total to 552.5kg, showcasing her determination and hard work as she prepares to compete again at the championships.
