The twin towns of San Ignacio – Santa Elena has a new deputy mayor. She is 61-year-old Sandra Lanza, a tour operator turned Councillor and now deputy mayor. She was selected yesterday from among her five other colleagues to serve a six-month term. Lanza told LOVE NEWS that while this is her first political rodeo, she’s always been community minded and has some new plans for her town.
Sandra Lanza, Deputy Mayor, San Ignacio / Santa Elena: “We have too many bushy lots in the vicinity that we call the Twin Towns and that’s one of the major issues with the public that I would like to take an initiative and address. So, we have brought it up different times and we have to give the property owners fair notice before we even go ahead and publish their number of their lots so they can be aware without using their names. So, if I, for example, say, well we’re making a listing and this is so many lot numbers, people know their lot numbers. So, without even me mentioning who the owners are they would be aware that they’ll get a fair warning and after the second and then the third nothing happens, then we’ll have to take legal action. That’s one of my major projects I want to set on because it’s an ongoing issue. The second one is to create a program that’s going to bring out the youth and the senior citizens in the community because we don’t seem to have, except for the senior citizen Octavia Waight. And one of the things is that when you become a retired person you basically have no entertainment; you just sit at home. So me, I like visiting people, hearing their inputs, especially people that are older than I am, you know, I’m, I’m open to opinion and comments and even the negative one.”
The Deputy Mayor position is a full-time job.
