Santa Elena Man Killed in George Price Highway Collision; DUI Suspected

A crash on the George Price Highway has claimed the life of 34-year-old Danny Denver Mai of Santa Elena Town. The fatal incident occurred early Saturday morning near Central Farm in the Cayo District, when Mai’s grey Niko 150 motorcycle collided head-on with a black Toyota Corolla. Police say the car, driven by 21-year-old Kyle Alberto Vasquez of San Ignacio Town, allegedly lost control and swerved into Mai’s lane.  The impact threw Mai roughly 105 feet from his motorcycle, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Vasquez, who holds a valid driver’s license, has been detained as part of the investigation. A urine sample was taken for testing, and both vehicles have been impounded at the San Ignacio Police Station. ACP Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crime Investigation Branch, says it is suspected that the driver was under the influence.

Danny Mai received injuries to his body. He was taken for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries. An investigation was carried out and Kyle Vasquez has since been arrested and charged for fail to provide specimen and drove motor vehicle without due care and attention.”

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances that led to the tragic collision.
