Shiners, Sharps Claim Wins in Elite Netball

St. Andrew Shiners and St. James Sharps were winners in yesterday’s round of matches in the Red Stripe Flavours Netball Jamaica Elite League at the Stadium courts.

In match-14, The Shiners edged St. Andrew Orchids 37-36.

Kellian Hunter led the scoring for the Shiners with 11 points, while Tafia Hunter scored 25 points in the Orchids losing efforts.

The National under-21s are competing as the Shiners.

Coach Phyliss Thompson, says they are using the tournament as part of their preparation for the Youth World Cup qualifiers in Guadeloupe, next month.

Shiners goalkeeper, Roxana “Momo” McLean was named player of the match. Thompson described her as a special talent.

In the other match, the Sharps clipped Kingston Hummingbirds 52-51. Mischca Creary scored 27-points and Shanoy Washington 24.
