Stann Creek students stand to enhance their learning and teaching capabilities through modern methods using a new, interactive smart classroom located at the Institute for Technical and Vocational Education and Training ITVET, in Hope Creek. Harry Arzu found out more.
Harry Arzu, Love FM Correspondent: “The Stank Creek IT Vet located here at Hope Creek Village now has a Smart Classroom that was officially inaugurated at the said learning institution compound. Love news was at the event and spoke with the manager of ITVET, Stann Creek, Gwendolyn Martinez, who tells us more.
Gwendolyn Martinez, Manager, Stann Creek ITVET: “A Smart Classroom is something that our millennials will be so excited to be a part of. It uses technology to make not only classroom more exciting but also it makes the teacher’s life a little bit easier and you can be more interactive with the instructor as well as the instructor with the trainees. The objective is to enhance learning, keep our teaching and learning current and interactive in the classroom. We have been in partnership with the Skills To Access The Green Economy as well as our Canadian partners, the government of Canada. For over four years and with this partnership we have been able to get a number of stuff as well with our agro-food processing program. We have gotten stoves donated to our institution and now we are getting a smart classroom. Our instructors as well have gained because we have been getting a number of training from our Canadian partners as well. So, with this, specifically with this smart classroom, the equipment is not only for our trainees and our instructors to use, it will also be beneficial to the surrounding communities so that many people don’t have access to internet, they don’t have access to computers or printers to do work or to do a course. We will welcome members of our surrounding communities to also come and utilize these.
Harry Arzu, Love FM Correspondent: The smart classroom is equipped with a series of technology devices that were donated by an NGO known as Skills to Access a Green Economy. Pat Bidart is the Senior Technical Advisor for the said organization.
Pat Bidart, Senior Technical Advisor, Skills To Access A Green Economy: “The Educational technology equipment that we purchased as part of our program, we had educational technology consulting that trained people how to work and do better online programming. The concern was that we did the teaching, but not all the institutions had the right equipment. So, we were able to go into the funds allocated to the program to donate first of all a smart classroom so that the instructors here can better teach and use it for online and then what we call a learning hub. So we donated some computers, desktops and laptops that we wanted to be accessible for community members. So, you know, buying a computer, having internet is very expensive. And so, with this learning hub people from the community can come in and take a course online or to find research online, but it’s there for the community members.”
