ONE-HUNDRED-METRE HURDLES national champion and record holder Ackera Nugent isn’t just fast over the hurdles. She is fast.
Nugent, who holds the national record of 12.28 seconds, clocked a nippy 11.17 seconds for second in the women’s 100 metres final at the Ed Murphey Classic – American Track League, finishing behind Favour Offili of Nigeria (11.13).
And to prove that the time was no fluke, Nugent had gone even faster in the heats the previous day, logging a lifetime-best 11.15 to romp to victory.
World Championships 100-metre hurdles gold medallist Danielle Williams ended third in her pet event, clocking 12.81 seconds, finishing behind Christina Clemons of the United States, 12.61, and Denisha Cartwright of the Bahamas, 12.73.
Candice McLeod failed to finish in the women’s 400m.
National 800-metre champion Tyrese Rhoden was fourth, clocking 1:46.50 minutes, while Olympic-bound Navasky Anderson was 11th in 1:47.53.
In the men’s 110-metre hurdles, Orlando Bennett, another Olympic-bound athlete, could only manage sixth in 13.67 seconds, the same time given to countryman Odario Phillips, who ended seventh.
Nigel Elllis, Kadrian Goldson, and Yohan Blake failed to ‘fire’ in the men’s 100 metres, finishing seventh in 10.31, eighth in 10.39, and ninth in 10.42 seconds, respectively.
PJ Austin of the United States won in 10.04.
