Teen Burn Victim Succumbs After Tragic San Felipe Arson Attack

16-year-old Shadia Magana, one of the last burnt victims of the house fire in San Felipe Village, Orange Walk, passed away this morning shortly after 5:00 while receiving treatment at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City. The perpetrator, Franics Godoy, passed away 45 minutes later. Shadia sustained burn injuries to approximately 80% of her body and face during the heinous crime of arson committed by her former stepfather, Francis Godoy, 35. The crime was committed around 2 am, on Monday, some hundred yards from the entrance of the Blue Creek community, in the Orange Walk District. Today, a broken and devastated Anita Briceno, one of Angelita Briceno’s sisters, spoke exclusively to Love News on the preventative step her sister was desperately trying to take before she perished in the fire.

Anita Briceno, Sister: “She went there to ask for a restriction order. On Wednesday I went with her like after five around six and she went on Friday also. And they told her that she needs to go to the DPP. That’s not fair. I believe they had told her, they don’t do anything to help my sister.”

Reporter: So you believe that they just neglected this whole case ?

Anita Briceno, Sister: “Yes. He just came out, I don’t know how they let him come out from Hattieville. I don’t know what how they failed in favor of him in the court. I don’t know. He wasn’t supposed to come out.”

On Monday, Angelita Briceno, 34, and her six-year-old son, Tishann Godoy, perished in the fire. Police say that Francis Godoy, Briceno’s ex common-law husband, forcefully entered her home while she, her daughter Shadia, Tashann, and current common-law husband Miguel Novelo were all sleeping, doused the house with gasoline, and set it on fire. Novelo and Shadia managed to escape the fire, but not before she received first- and second-degree burns. Funeral for Angelita Briceno, her daughter Shadia Magana, and son Tashann Godoy is scheduled for tomorrow morning, at Betel Evangelical Church in Orange Walk, commencing at 10.
