A trio from the Cayo District, Whitney Dorris Alford, 21, Lisa Marie Gonzalez, 31, and Francisco Ernesto Landeverde, 23, were arrested and jointly charged with the offense of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply. The operation was carried out on October 20 in conjunction with the Mobile Interdiction Unit and the Highway Interdiction Team of the Belize Police Department.

ASP Stacy Smith: “Police reported that in the course of conducting the checkpoint on the highway they would have been approached by a silver in colour Ford Escape and based on the circumstances at hand the officer informed the occupants of the vehicle, which were for a number, that a search is to be conducted on the vehicle. Having advised them of their intention to conduct research the vehicle sped off and police followed and pursued it off an off-way road in the same vicinity when police intercepted it two of the male persons fled and the other two females were detained. A search of the vehicle led to several parcels of suspected cannabis which has totaled 49 pounds. Mr. Landeverde subsequently turned himself in the police custody.”
