Two men were arrested after police seized more than 13 kilograms of cannabis during an intelligence-led anti-drug operation in Arima on Friday.
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) said 24 packets containing approximately 13.640 kilograms of cannabis were recovered during Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. Shield, which was conducted between 12:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.
The operation was carried out by officers of the Northern North Criminal Investigations Department (CID), who executed a search warrant at a residence along Soursop Crescent, Santa Rosa, Arima.
Police said the exercise was spearheaded by Superintendent McKenzie and coordinated by ASP Balewa, Inspector David and Sgt Forgenie. It was supervised by Corporal Andrews, with assistance from Woman Corporal Caruth and members of the Northern North Division Task Force.
During the search of the premises, officers discovered the packages containing the cannabis. The TTPS said the estimated street value of the seized narcotics is still being determined.
Two men, aged 27 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. They were taken to the Arima Police Station, where investigations are continuing.
The TTPS said the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities and remove illegal narcotics from communities across the country.
The service added that intelligence-led enforcement operations will continue as police seek to target individuals and networks involved in the distribution of illicit drugs.
Operation R.E.S.O.L.U.T.E. Shield has involved a series of police exercises focused on addressing criminal activity through targeted investigations, surveillance and coordinated action by divisions of the TTPS.
